Thomas Haupert Obituary

Thomas Joseph Haupert, born on January 17, 1941 in Santa Ana,
California, to John Lawrence Haupert and Loretta Isabel Haupert,
passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024 in Aliso Viejo,
California surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was the beloved husband of Bonnie Chadwick Haupert, who
predeceased him in death, a devoted and loving father to Pamela
Haupert Sullivan, Amy Haupert, Christina Haupert, and Thomas J.
Haupert II and a proud father-in-law to Erica Hanson Haupert. He
also adored his role as "Poppy" to his six grandchildren: Tommy
(15), Luke (14), Grace (13), Austin (13), Ryan (11), and Savannah
(7). He is also survived by his sisters, Doris Haupert Hoffman
and Carol Haupert Leversen (Michael) and numerous nieces,
nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and one great grandnephew.
Tom grew up in Santa Ana, attending St. Joseph’s elementary
school before graduating from high school at Mater Dei, (after a
brief stint in the seminary where the powers that be quickly
realized he was “better suited as a family man”). Tom flourished
at Mater Dei as a double Letterman, running track and playing
football under his much admired and beloved Coach Coury (back to
back CIF champions with undefeated seasons in 1956 and 1957). In
1959, after being set up on a blind date, he met his true love,
Bonnie. They were married on September 19,1964, and shared a
wonderful life together, filled with love, lots of laughter,
adventures, four kids and lots of fun pets.
In the early years of their marriage, Tom was a Certified Public
Accountant with Arthur Young & Company, having been recruited
right out of college. He went on to become a consultant to
Savings & Loans and stayed in the financial industry for most of
his career until he became a partner in MCS Associates where he
was still working full-time until early last year. Tom managed
to balance work-life and family life, always ensuring his wife
and children were his top priority. He guided his kids and
grandkids with an abundance of love, humor, wisdom, and
unwavering support. He also continued his athletic endeavors by
completing four marathons and three 1/2 ironman triathlons, along
with numerous biking events with his daughters, including several
“Century” rides.
Tom had a passion for meandering road trips. He loved nothing
better than driving up Hwy 395 into the Sierras with Bonnie

and/or any of his kids who were available to go with them. While
Southern California was his home for most of his life, Tom’s
adventurous spirit led him to explore the world. From vacations
to Lake City, Colorado and his beloved Yosemite National Park, to
camping trips around the Sierras and Rockies He also enjoyed
cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico, Canada and Alaska, as well as
vacations abroad to England and Italy. He always embraced life
to the fullest.
Tom will be profoundly missed by his family and many friends, who
will carry his spirit in their hearts forever. He was truly the
center of their universe, and his legacy of love and togetherness
will continue to inspire those he touched. He will be forever
missed. Family is comforted that he and his Bonnie are together
again.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on January 23
2025 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Laguna Niguel with a
reception immediately following on Church grounds. There is a
private interment the following day at Holy Sepulcher. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Yosemite
Conservancy or the Mater Dei Lettermans Club, a scholarship
foundation which he co-founded.
