A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and U.S. Marine Veteran, Sylvester ("Sam") was born in Byhalia, Mississippi in 1947 where he attended Henry High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Marines.
Sam was blessed to marry his childhood sweetheart, Ruby, on February 27, 1968. They went on to have six children: Angela, Michelle Marie, Regina Renee, Stacy Sheree, Kimberly Krishun, and Sylvester Jr. who they raised in Southern California.
Sam was a man of generosity, humility, and sacrifice. Often found with a cap on his head and a gentle smile on his face, he was someone you could always count on. Whether he was watching a Lakers or Packers Game, on a fishing trip, attending once of his grandchildren's school events, or taking a nap in his favorite spot on the couch, his presence was something that was cherished by everyone.
Sylvester was called Home on December 3rd, 2022, but his memory will live on forever. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby; Children, Angela, Michelle, Stacy, Kim, and Sylvester Jr.; 2 Sons-in-law, Ray and Reggie; 1 Daughter-in-law, Ana; 11 Grandchildren, Vontrell, Jenae, Kyani, Aayjsha, Kierra, Raelynn, Jordan, Ryleigh, Tyler, London, and Blake; 3 Great-Grandchildren: Austyn, Kaesyn, and Jaxsyn; 3 Brothers, John, Walter Jr., and Tony; 3 Sisters, Barbara, Ruth, and Beauty and a host of cousins, family, and friends. He was welcomed into the Heavenly Gates by his daughter, Regina, his parents, as well as his two sisters Ira and Jean.
