Oralie B. Enos

Oralie Baker Enos, 89 of Orange, left this world on February 24, 2019, to join

her beloved husband Joe who predeceased her by only 40 days.  

Born Frances Oralie Baker on August 19, 1929, in San Francisco California to Frances Thompson and George Lowell Baker.  Upon graduation from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco Oralie went to work for an insurance broker.  During this time, she became a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she was involved in fund raising activities and served as a counselor at summer camp for Recreation for the Blind.  Oralie also served with the Red Cross at a Veteran’s Hospital.

In 1951, she went to work for the Department of State under the Point Four program.  After a three-month training period in Washington DC she was assigned as secretary to the Industry Advisor in Tel Aviv, Israel.  In June of 1952, she was re-assigned as secretary to an American Economist on a Top-Secret project and was sent to Jerusalem. 

On arrival in Jerusalem she met her future husband and the love of her life.  On January 10th, 1953, in Terra Sancta Chapel in Jerusalem, Oralie married Joseph Robert Enos Jr. 

In 1954, Joe was transferred to US Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, California.

While Joe was stationed at El Toro, Oralie worked on the base for the Public Works Department until 1961. 

Oralie and Joe had three children and purchased a home in Santa Ana.  While living in Santa Ana Oralie became active with St. Callistus Church.  She started a newsletter that went out to all parishioners, chaired the annual fashion show, was President of the Women’s Guild for three years, taught sixth grade CCD for eight years, assisted the priests in bringing communion to the sick, and was a member of the Sacred Heart League, among so many other things.

In 1971, the family moved to the City of Orange and became active members of Holy Family Cathedral.  Oralie and Joe spent a life enhancing Marriage Encounter Weekend and became members of Cursillo.  

Some of her many contributions to Holy Family Cathedral included being an usher and lector for twenty years, a Eucharistic Minister to the sick for ten years, Oralie founded and led Hearts and Hands Women’s Ministries, proofread the weekly perish bulletin for six years and was a member of the Orange Diocesan Ecumenical Commission. During this time, Oralie was nominated for Catholic Woman of the Year.   In 2002, she and her husband were inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, where she earned her Pilgrim Shell. 

In 1972, Oralie became employed by Hyland Laboratories in their Print Shop as a Clerk and rose to the position of Quality Engineer.  In 1979, the company relocated, and she obtained a position with American Hospital Supply where she worked as a Supervisor in the Labeling Department until her retirement in 1990. 

After retirement, in addition to her many church related activities she volunteered and was the Wednesday Captain at Mary’s Kitchen feeding the homeless and assisting them in numerous other ways for more than twenty years.   

Oralie was a loving wife, mother and friend who will be missed dearly by so many.  She is survived by her children Teri (Albert) Guerrero, Karen Bau (Bud Hubler) and Mark (David Russo) and all the others who have loved her and called her Mama. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 12:10 pm, at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange.  Following the Mass funeral and internment, a Celebration of her Life will be held at 2:00 pm at The Villa in Orange.   

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Mary’s Kitchen or Holy Family Cathedral School or some other charity of your choice.
