Mia Shabazz Prowell was born on June 15, 1972 in Santa Ana, CA and passed away on September 22, 2025, at the age of 52 in Culver City, CA. Mia was a vibrant individual known for her love of music, dancing, and the joy she found in family gatherings and meeting new people. Mia was known for her gift of gab, the girl could talk! Everyone she met became her friend, which was a testament to her kindness and loving nature. Mia graduated from Valley High School in 1991 and attended Santa Ana College, where she furthered her education before working on a diversified career path that included roles in hospitality, retail and property management security. Her work allowed her to touch the lives of many bringing warmth and a smile wherever she went. Mia embraced her faith early in life with baptism at New Spirit Baptist Church in Santa Ana. CA where she found community, peace and acceptance that sustained her throughout her life. Mia is survived by her loving mother, Dorothy Anne Powell; brothers George (Georgia), James (Nina), and Robby; sons Malik Anthony Powell, Marcus Elliott Tucker and Moses (Moey) Tucker; granddaughter, Maleigha Powell; nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Jared, Marshall, Jonah, Taro, Brianna and Nicholas; grandnephews and grandniece, Malcolm, Dominic and Amara. Her loved ones include a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. Mia was preceded in death by her father Obie Lee Powell. Mia's greatest joy was the special relationship she had with her sons. Mia's love for her family especially her sons, seafood, sharing her mothers home cooking with friends and her great energy at social gatherings will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and the many people whose lives she touched with her infectious smile and generous nature.
