John Joseph Vela, a resident of Santa Ana, CA, was born on September 6, 1965, in
Westminster, CA, to Alice Lupe Balandran Vela and Felix Vargas Vela. He passed away
on November 13, 2024.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rosemary Vela Casas. He is
survived by his sisters Juanita Vela and Tina R. Cunningham; nieces Leesa Jennette
and Nicole Lopez, Alicia Lara, and Rosa Sherman; nephew Jeremy Casas; and
brothers-in-law Orlando Casas and Don Sherman. He is also survived by numerous
family members including cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors who loved him
dearly.
John was an avid sports fan. He loved watching boxing, basketball, attending Mighty
Ducks hockey games, going to the horse races, and enjoying baseball games. His
passion for football was unwavering—Go Raiders!
In addition to his love for sports, John enjoyed fishing, spending time in nature,
gardening, listening to music, reading, and playing video games with his nieces. He
cherished moments spent bonding with his family. John was a reliable and kind person,
always there for those in need. His generosity and warmth touched many lives, and he
will be deeply missed.
Memorial Services will be held on December 9, 2024, at Brown Colonial Mortuary from
10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
