John Joseph Merino, Jr.
John was born on February 1, 1934, in Santa Ana, California to Martha and John
Merino. He attended Santa Ana High School and Cal State University Long
Beach. John retired from Mater Dei High School after 45 years of service. He
was national president of the Sigma Pi fraternity and served on its Grand
Council for a decade. John died peacefully on May 11, 2023 due to end stage
kidney disease.

John is survived by nephews, Mark Gatlin, Chris Merino, Wayne Merino and
Daryl Merino, as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was loved by his
family and friends and will be greatly missed. The Funeral Mass will be
celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, May 25, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church,
727 Minter Street, Santa Ana, CA. Interment will follow in Fairhaven Memorial
Park in Santa Ana.
