John Vytas Bakas, 73, of Newport Beach, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2024, supported and surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Sheboygan, WI on March 1, 1951 to John and Ursula Bakas, John spent his youth roaming and adventuring throughout the grapefruit groves of Fontana, CA, with his brothers Paul, Bob and Dave, and his sisters Sandi and Mari. As a young man, John served his country in the Air Force for 4 years before graduating from CSU Fullerton with a BA in Geography. While always interested in Geography, John would find success and happiness working as a Mortgage Banker, helping facilitate deals and support his clients.
Throughout his life, John was dedicated to his family, regularly attending his nieces and nephews events and being a fixture at family gatherings. His enthusiasm for games and his fun-loving nature frequently would conflict with his fastidious rule following, much to the enjoyment of his loved ones.
As a devout Catholic, John attended mass regularly, volunteering his time to his as an usher, server, Eucharistic Minister, and Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Mt Carmel. In his final days, he expressed his gratitude “that I have been able to be of service” to those in his community.
John is survived by his siblings Aleksandra Bakas, Paul Bakas, Robert Bakas, Marija Valdez, and David Bakas, his sister-in-laws JoAnn, Erin, and Julie, his brother-in-law Barry, his seven nieces and nephews, Alexis, Aimee, Kyle, Kelsey, Kallen, Kendall, and Courtney, and his 8 great nieces and nephews Knox, Kash, Lexington, Kinley, Ieva, Zelie, Evander, and Darrow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a memorial contribution in John's name to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1441 W. Balboa Blvd, Newport Beach, CA 92661.
