James Cagney Wicks who was affectionately known as Jimmy was born in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma on June 29th 1941 to JC Wicks and Clemmie Lee Wicks. He was the second child of this
union. He had an older sister Janice Wicks and younger brother Ronald Wicks. He considered
himself a cowboy and loved Westerns at a young age. He and his family relocated to
California in 1946 and he attended schools in the Compton Unified School District
graduating from Centennial High School in 1959. Jimmy played on the football team and
excelled at Track and Field. He was especially good at high jumping in high school and college.
He attended Compton Community College, received a degree from Golden West Community
College and attended Long Beach State University. He majored in Machine Technology and he
was one of two referred to Northrup Grumman personnel by his professor.
He was hired and worked for Northrop Grumman for 35 years working his way up to Supervisor.
Jimmy met Janyce Theresa Driver at Compton College in October 1960. They met fell in love
and married in January 1962. From that union 2 children were born Wendi Kristina and James
Christopher.
Jimmy enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing and sports. He was gifted musically playing guitar, piano,
banjo, harmonica and on the Praise and Worship team at his Church he played the trumpet.
Jimmy was a man of God and he attended Church regularly and dedicated his time taking
Missionary trips with the Church. He travelled to Guatemala, Peru and Mazatlan.
Jimmy was a dedicated and dependable husband and father who was loving and strong.
He was a hard worker with an excellent work ethic.
Jimmy leaves behind his wife of 61 years Janyce T Wicks, daughter Wendi (Wicks) Biddings, (Wil
Biddings), son James Christopher Wicks,
(Jaimee Wicks), five grandchildren Willie Biddings (Kim Biddings), Joshua Biddings, Jonica Biddings,
Jazmine Biddings and Kylie Wicks,
a brother Ronald Wicks (who passed 10 days following Jimmy) Half Sister Doris Sykes and a host of other
family members and friends. Jimmy will always
be remembered as a man that served and honored God and is now rejoicing with Jesus.
