George "Keoki" Monroy Obituary

On December 4th 1968 Albert and Elva Monroy ushered their beautiful baby boy George into the world. He would be the 1st of 5 children, but he was their only son. He was followed by sister's Edith, Leticia, Esperanza and Ivonne.  As a young boy growing up in Garden Grove California , George is described by family and friends as being a great Big Brother, protective of his sister's, kind, somewhat reserved - yet social, caring, giving, defender of the helpless and had a smile that would light up the room!  After graduating from Santiago high school in 1987, George spent several years following his heart while he dabbled in making music, working on classic and unique cars and just trying to figure not only himself out, but life as well and his place in this world. In the mid nineties George moved to Huntington Beach and began working with abused children at a facility in Newport beach, and this would be the catalyst that would launch him into a lifetime of caring for and rehabilitating children and adults  psychologically, emotionally and physically.  It was then that he had found his true calling in life - and that was to help people. This would also be the beginning of his endless romance with the ocean, and the insatiable desire to live by it. While pursuing his passion and calling for helping people as a career, George would take annual trips with his best friend Tracy to places such as Thailand, Bali, the Cook Islands, Puerto Rico and Vanuatu- Thus developing a love for island life and the people he would come to know and call "ohana"-family. You see, George valued experiences, traveling and meeting new people from different cultures far more than material possessions. His friends describe him as compassionate, calming, trustworthy and fiercely loyal! His sudden departure has created a space in this world and in our hearts that will never be filled. George is survived by his mother Elva, sister's Edith, Leticia, Esperanza and Ivonne.  Nieces Lizette,  Danielle and Amy. Nephew's Joseph, Junior, Derek, Nathan, Johnny, Sonny- and is smiling down on us from heaven with nephew Aydan. Three great nieces Aleina, Angelina and Hazel.  And finally his beloved aunts and uncles, cousins and the countless hundreds of people who will hold George in their hearts eternally.  As well as the 2 dogs that he loved and adored so much Nani & Max ❤️
