Froilan V. Mendez was born in Cuenca, Ecuador on August 25, 1930. He was the second of ten brothers and sisters. As a boy, while playing in the neighborhood where his friend Carlos lived, he met his wife, Carmen. Eventually, they married on July 4, 1952 and had six children. Froilan brought his family to the United States in 1973. He worked for the Crown, Cork, and Seal Company as a machinist, and retired after 22 years of service. In his free time, he would spend hours and hours recording himself singing his favorites songs, and loved to dance even up until his last days. He also loved his cars, and could be found in his younger days out in the driveway working on them. Froilan was blessed to have six children, thirteen grand children, and eight great-grand children and will be greatly missed.
