Eric Sweet Obituary

Eric Matthew Sweet was born on June 17, 1961, in Logansport, Indiana, the youngest of five children born to Robert and Delores Sweet. He attended Logansport High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Eric’s strong athletic ability quickly made him a hometown hero and, after graduation, he attended Butler University before transferring to the University of San Diego in 1981. Eric met his wife, Jodi, at USD where they were college sweethearts and Eric was the star quarterback, while Jodi was the bubbly cheerleader on the sidelines! They married in 1988 and recently celebrated 32 years of marriage in February. They have three beautiful, grown children — Kaelie, Logan, and Kyle. Both Logan & Kyle played college football and, as a proud UCLA Bruin & Washington State Coug dad, Eric never missed a game. He loved getting to games early to tailgate with fellow football families, hustling in to watch warm-ups, and toasting to every catch, touchdown, and victory! Eric also supported Kaelie’s interests by attending countless Indian Princess camping trips, daddy/daughter dances, school fieldtrips, and cheerleading competitions. It was not uncommon to see him working Admissions at Jodi’s company’s cheerleading events, as well. He was a warm, personable, and caring individual who loved to strike up conversations with everyone he met.

Eric was connected to, and proud of, the community in which he lived and volunteered. He coached countless kids through Pop Warner Titan and Mustang football, as well as Rancho Santa Margarita Little League baseball, even leading his 12u All Star team to the California State Championship! He coached and volunteered at both St. Junipero Serra Catholic Grade School and Santa Margarita Catholic High School, simply because he loved being around and supporting local youth.  Time on the golf course with

his sons and close friends, as well as barbecuing chicken “low and slow” at family events, were favorite pastimes that Eric cherished and always looked forward to.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Kathy & Cindy. He is survived by his wife Jodi, his three children, Kaelie, Logan, and Kyle, his brothers, Robb, of Logansport, IN, and Tim (Terrie) of Walton, IN, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
