Emile Joseph Assaf, age 93, of Pasadena, California passed away peacefully at Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA on October 6, 2020. He was surrounded by his family. Born January 12, 1927, in Beirut, Lebanon, he immigrated to the United States with his wife Marie in 1957. He is the son of Joseph E. Assaf and Alice (Aboukhater) Assaf. Emile earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College, New York. In 1958 Emile went to work for Peerless Pump as a shop engineer. Over the years his hard work and acumen were rewarded with frequent promotions and inevitable relocations for him and his ever-growing family. At age 65 he retired as the President and CEO of Peerless Pump. He then served as President and then Chairman of the Hydraulic Institute. Emile loved Peerless and the Hydraulic Institute. He felt blessed to work with such wonderful, talented and dedicated people. In his spare time Emile loved to spend time with his family and friends, travel and listen to opera and classical music. He is survived by his loving wife Marie, of 65 years; along with six children; Jeff and Cecelia Assaf of Brentwood, California, Michele Assaf of Pasadena, California, Greg and Zenaida Assaf of Santa Ana, California, Kim and David Koehler of Coto de Caza, California, Robin and Don Wofford of Carlsbad, California, and Karen Torrell of Pasadena, California; twelve grandchildren, Brody Torrell, Darian Torrell, Drew Koehler, Shelby Koehler, Brooke Koehler, Madison Koehler, Ariana Assaf, Paulina Assaf, Morgan Wofford, Michael Wofford, Julio and Elise Assaf, Amanda Assaf; great grandson Rex Assaf; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Emile was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many.
The funeral Mass for Emile Assaf will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, October 19, 2020 at Christ Cathedral, 13280 Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove, CA 92840. Due to COVID–19 all are required to wear masks and practice social distancing. The funeral Mass will be livestreamed on YouTube, simply search “Emile Assaf Funeral”. The family encourages those who are at high risk, or who may be ill, to stay home and take care of themselves. The internment will follow immediately thereafter at the Cathedral Memorial Gardens.
