Elmer Thomas Meagher

Elmer Thomas Meagher, 83, of Desert Hot Springs, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on April 30, 1935 in St. Wendell, Minnesota, and left this world on April 8, 2019.

Elmer served proudly in the US Navy on the USS Wasp aircraft carrier. After serving in the Navy, Elmer worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital where he met his future bride, Elaine. They were married on September 5, 1959 in St. Cloud, Minnesota and they moved to California in 1960 where they settled and raised their family. Elmer was a dedicated family man and an active member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. He had been a long time resident of Garden Grove and a proud business owner of Elmer Meagher Realty since 1975. Elmer was an avid golfer, an Angels season ticket holder for over 40 years, and an active member of the Elks Lodge. He volunteered his time as an auctioneer, supporting numerous charity auctions throughout California. More recently, he volunteered with the Riverside Sheriff’s Department accumulating over 1,000 hours with the C.O.P.S. (Citizens on Patrol) program.

Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elaine and his four children: Deborah (Timothy) Boudreaux of Anaheim, Mary (Gary) Dyer of Garden Grove, James (Shelly) Meagher of Orange, and Timothy (Lynn) Meagher of Yorba Linda. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Adam, Paige, Alissa, Austin, Julia, Aaron, Kayla, Matthew, Noah, Kate, and Mark. Elmer is survived by his brother Dennis (Violet, deceased) Meagher of Minnesota. He was the beloved son of his deceased parents, John A. Meagher and Mary (Callahan) Meagher of St. Wendell, Minnesota. Elmer was preceded in death by his seven siblings: Francis Patrick (Sadie) Meagher, Thomas (Viva) Meagher, Alice (John) Van Hoof, Bernadette Bliesner, Edna Chylstek, Arthur (Ethel) Meagher, and infant John Meagher.

Elmer was admired and respected by many and will be sadly missed. He was known for his quick wit and exceptional sense of humor. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
