In lieu of flowers, may we suggest donation in Arnold's name to Our Lady Queen of Angels, or St. Bede the Venerable La Canada Flintridge.
Arnold von Massenhausen, age 90, passed away peacefully in his home in Corona del Mar on February 19th, 2020.
Born in Munich, Germany on December 27th, 1929, Arnold met his future wife, Eleonore, at a ski lodge in Austria. Following their marriage in June of 1956, he was joined in America by his new wife and began to pursue the American Dream. They built an incredible life together in La Crescenta, California.
His career in the insurance industry brought him success, and most importantly, friendships that lasted until his final days.
Arnold was taught patience and persistence in his pursuit of golf, and he made many lifelong friends at Oakmont Country Club. He was an exceptional downhill skier, and while he wasn’t a fan of turning (it only slows you down, after all), he loved to participate in his favorite outdoor activity with his four children and ten grandchildren. Memories of family vacations on the ski slopes are some of the most cherished by his entire family.
One constant in Arnold’s life was family. Opa (as he was called when he became a grandfather for the first time) was fiercely driven to encourage his entire family and see them prosper. Whether it was holidays at his house, family dinners, annual vacations or travel to spend time with out-of-town children and grandchildren, family time was always a priority.
Arnold is survived by his four children (Charlotte, Ellie, Arnie and Kathy) and ten grandchildren (Matthew, Jessica, Michael, AJ, Robert, Maggie, Allie, Cloie, Angelo and Nicholas).
In light of recent events, the family is deferring the scheduled Memorial Mass at St. Bede the Venerable Church, and the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, date to be determined.
A private burial will be held March 23rd, 2020 at Pacific View Cemetery.
