Albert Cayton Erhard was born on April 4, 1929 in Austin, Texas. He and his older sister Bonnie grew up in the small town of Bastrop, Texas, where his family owned the “oldest drugstore in Texas.” After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton.
Albert met the love of his life, Pauline, at a Valentine's dance. They were married the following year on January 12, 1952. It was their shared dream to have a large family. They settled in Santa Ana where they raised twelve children.
Albert worked for the Santa Ana Fire Department, eventually becoming Captain until his retirement. He was dedicated to helping others, especially individuals with special needs, the elderly, the poor, and the vulnerable.
Albert was active in the Catholic Church and loved serving as lector, choir member, cantor, and Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and Holy Family Cathedral. He was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital distributing the Holy Eucharist to patients.
On February 17, 2020, Albert passed peacefully into eternity to be with the Lord and reunite with his life-long Love. Many of his children were at his side. He is survived by 11 of his children, as well as 37 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
