Joseph Sciolaro Obituary

Joseph Salvatore Sciolaro

On March 06, 2019 at 12:05am we lost our beloved husband, father and grandfather to brain cancer. Joe was born 12/24/1932 to Sam and Rose Sciolaro in Kansas City, MO. After Joe's dad passed away when he was seven, his mother moved him and his sister Ruth first to Nevada and then to Los Angeles, CA. Later a sister, Mary Lou and a brother, Tommy were born.

Joe joined the US Army in 1950 and served as a tank driver in Japan and Korea until his honorable discharge as PFC in July, 1953.

He returned to Los Angeles and in April, 1954 married Ruby Knerr, who had a daughter, Dorris. Ruby and Joe had 2 daughters, Orleta and Leila. In June, 1958, he married Edith Slafter, and they had 2 children; Sam, who passed away soon after he was born and Candi. In August, 1979 Joe married Janet Lopez, who had 2 daughter, Julie and Sonya.

Joe enjoyed driving, especially motorcycles and fast cars. He loved dancing, music (especially the Blue Danube Waltz) and watching old movies. He worked as an aircraft structural mechanic for nearly 40 years. He worked for Rockwell, Avionic Structures and retired from Northrop in 1994. While retired, he enjoyed working out at the gym..

Joe is survived by his wife Janet; daughters Orleta Yaniro, Leila Katangian (Tim) Candi Koonce (Mike); stepdaughters Julie Lopez and Sonya Lopez (Andy Karvonan); grandchildren Amy Koonce (Kyle Bellamy) of Leith Scotland Andrew Koonce of Ballston Spa, NY, Raquel Katangian and Desiree Katangian.
