David Luna Torres, with his family and friends by his side, passed away peacefully at age 80 in his home on February 20, 2018, following a brave battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born on August 28, 1937 to Rosario and Esperanza Torres in their home in El Modena, the sixth of eight children. He is survived by sisters Carolina Torres and Sylvia Caigoy, brother Richard Torres and his wife of 50 years Beatriz Torres and their five children: Betty Chavez, Jose Torres (with wife Lupe), Laura Cunningham (with husband Matthew), Gabriel Torres (with wife Susie) and Aniela Flores (with husband Cesar). He delighted in his fourteen grandchildren – Stephen, David, Jennifer, Danielle, Jacqueline, Ryan, Alexia, Sabrina, Kyla, Carina, Ava, Kenna, Ethan and Zachary - and his two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Kaylin. A lifelongresident of El Modena, David graduated from Orange High School and Santa Ana College. He served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1966, serving in an armored unit in West Germany at the height of the Cold War. He met Beatriz in 1967 and they married in 1968, going on to raise their five children in El Modena. David workedin many capacities for Southern California Edison,from which he retired after 21 years. Throughout his life, David found enjoyment in gardening, needlepoint, reading, music and especially his yearly camping tripsto Ensenada, Mexico with his children, grandchildren and friends. David will always be remembered for his warmth, his easy-going demeanor, his deep, infectious laugh and his joy in life.
