June 5th, 1969 - April 20, 2019
Art was born in Los Angeles on June 5th, 1968. The family moved to Garden Grove soon afterwards, where he resided the rest of his life. He attended Simmons elementary school, Lampson Jr. High and Garden Grove High School. He went on to receive his AA degree at Cypress College. He is fondly remembered by many for his athleticism and kind hearted nature. He was awarded many accolades and earned many recognitions for his track and field, football and wrestling. He was a fast runner winning the 440 meter run on the track team. Art was a dedicated running back and linebacker on the football team starting on the Varsity team as a sophomore. He will mostly be remembered for being one of the best wrestlers to ever set foot and compete at Garden Grove High School or in Orange County. His wrestling accomplishments include 4 X CIF medals, 2 X all county athlete, 2 x league MVP, athlete of the year at Grove, and college “All American” at Cypress College.
Aside from sports he was also well admired for his friendly nature and kind heart. He as very admired at school and chosen as one of the “Coed” candidates his senior year. Art was also a most worthy Argonaut candidate his senior year. Art read the bible often, started a bible club his senior year and would often talk about his faith and Jesus Christ with his family and peers.
Art was also gifted in drawing and painting at young age. He was lefty who would draw many star wars scenes, cars and space themes. He made some impressive ceramics such as a fine replica of an Argo Head. Unfortunately he never had the opportunity to pursue those talents later in life.
Many friends and family will remember his discussions on music or movies. His ALWAYS had his stereo, Walkman playing favorites from the 70’s and 80’s. Bands such as Tears for Fears, Oingo Boingo, U2, Beastie Boys, Paula Abdul, Peter Gabriel and classics such as Queen and the Eagles. Art loved music and would not hesitate to bust a move when he was feeling good among family and friends.
Sadly, mental illness entered his life at the age of 20. Mental illness consumed his life and progressively worsened and ultimately contributed to his untimely and sudden death.
Family and friends will never forget Art’s childhood and teenage years, his kind nature and love for people and God. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten.
