Angelica Lopez Obituary

Angelica López was born in Santa Ana, California to Antonio and Camerina Lopez on September 27, 1988. She was the second daughter of three, and was born deaf. She lived most of her life in Santa Ana, until she moved to Rochester, New York in 2008. Angelica passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital due to respiratory complications and pneumonia.

Angelica was fully immersed in Deaf culture and Mexican culture. She enjoyed watching movies, especially classics like Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Psycho. She was adventurous - she looked for adventure all around her. After graduating from University High School, she attended Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and majored in Sociology, participating in many committees assisting with student affaires and concerns and improving the college of NTID (National Technical Institute for the Deaf). She was an overall great leader for the RIT/NTID community, and was fully devoted to it. She lived independently in Rochester, New York for almost half of her life often traveling to places like Boston, Washington D.C., New York City, Niagara Falls, Sacramento, Toronto, Canada. And beyond that, she traveled with her sisters to Madrid, Spain and Sydney, Australia. She loved to read books about everything from Law to Racism to how to write in American Sign Language.

She was an advocate for all human rights, often participating in protests, voting for equal rights, and supported many causes. She genuinely loved volunteering her time to her community and being needed. Feeling that she could contribute to any great cause and being treated as an equal was one of her greatest joys. She joined clubs and committees taking on important roles, tutored deaf individuals struggling in school, was very active in the Catholic Deaf Community.

She was proud of who she was. She was bold and dared to be different. She was a warrior. She wanted to make a difference in the world, and she definitely made a difference in ours. We will forever miss our silly, independent, beautiful, intelligent, kind, selfless daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. We love you forever.

Siempre vamos a extrañar nuestra hermosa, inteligente, cariñosa, noble hija, hermana, sobrina, prima, y amiga. Te queremos para siempre.
