Amelia Mendez Velasquez, 93, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully made her transition to Heaven on June 12, 2017.   Mel was the eldest child born to Miguel Alcala Mendez and Mabel Gaittan Mendez in Santa Ana on August 22, 1923.  She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Alex Velasquez, brothers Richard Mendez and Gene Mendez, sons Edward Velasquez and Art Velasquez, Grandchildren, Lisa, Robert, Daniel, Andrea, Christopher and Rebecca, Great Grandchildren, Joseph, Raymond, Alexis, Elizabeth, Brandon, Ava, Samuel and Miles.  She is preceded in death by her brothers Mike Mendez and Bob Mendez. 

Although our Mendez family is heartbroken at losing our matriarch, we can all smile thinking about the amazing memories and legacy she left behind.  She taught us all the love of family, the importance of friends, to never ever give up on anyone, to pray without ceasing, the importance of an education, to always speak up for yourself, to help others who come into your path and to live life to the fullest.

Please join us in celebrating her life.  Visitation and will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 4PM - 9PM with Rosary at 7PM at Brown Colonial Mortuary, Santa Ana.  Mass will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 12 PM Holy Family Cathedral, Orange, Burial at Holy Sepulcher, Orange and Reception at Anaheim Hills Golf Course.
